On June 10, 2007, Gum Springs Baptist Church called Dr. Jimmy E. Westmoreland, DMin.,ThD to pastor. Dr. Westmoreland earned his Doctorate degrees at Covington Theological Seminary. He was a professor for them and also registrar and professor at Foothills Theological School in Landrum, South Carolina. He is married to Patti and has two children: Joe and Mary Lou. On Saturday, October 27, 2007, during our Fall Festival our Pastor, Dr. Jimmy E. Westmoreland, began having chest pains. He was taken by ambulance to Gateway Hospital and then taken by life flight to Centennial Medical Center where he passed away a short time later. As you can imagine our church grieved at such a sudden and unexpected loss in our lives. In the short time he was with us 'Preacher' had an overwhelming affect on our lives. His powerful and energetic personality came through in every message he delivered, whether it was in front of a congregation, in an email or on the phone. Although we will always miss him terribly, we know he is in a much better place, delivering a more powerful message. He will always be in our thoughts and we will never forget the impact he had on our lives in the short period of time he served as pastor at Gum Springs Baptist Church. |
